We have a unique learning methodology, an innovative learning system and wide range of teaching tools. Students are grouped according to their age and level of proficiency in all our classes. For Children below the age of 6, we have a specially designed enhanced in house curriculum that is topic based which focuses on teaching the little ones through play, music, art, crafts, games and rhymes.  For children between the ages of 7 and 9 years, the curriculum is more focused on the development of reading, writing and conversational skills. We incorporate our teaching methodology and teaching techniques with the YCT (Youth Chinese Test) curriculum. For students 10 years and older, we combine our unique methodology and teaching technique with HSK curriculum. We conduct classes as per students’ age group ensuring that the depth of language study is not only easy but also interesting, motivating and engaging for students of various ages

At Happy Mandarin we find the art of learning and teaching the Chinese language fascinating – it sounds melodious when we hear it or speak it,  and it writes out like a beautiful poem! Contrary to what people feel, it is really fun, easy and interesting to learn the Chinese language. It helps stimulate young  minds, as it is an intelligent language, but at the same time is also very artistically formed. We always have a happy and inspired bunch of students at the end of all our classes.

Chinese is a truly beautiful language that can open exciting opportunities for our students. At Happy Mandarin, we employ unique teaching techniques and methodologies to impart the teaching of internationally recognised Chinese proficiency curriculums which enable the students to be certified by Hanban through Confucius Institute – (Chinese Language Council International – the official accrediting body for Chinese Proficiency Tests). However, our classes are modelled in such a way that our students’ Mandarin language skills are more advanced in comparison to others as we have an enhanced curriculum and incredibly practical and innovative teaching methodology that focuses on enhancing their Mandarin skills holistically.

Below are the curriculum we follow:

1. Early Years Mandarin (3 to 5 years/Early Years Mandarin) – A unique topic based curriculum developed in-house based on “Easy Steps to Chinese for Kids”. Students learn many topics like numbers, family, basic greetings, colours, fruits, vegetables, body parts and animals etc. through well designed play, activities, arts and crafts, singing, music and more.

2. Age 6 and above – We follow internationally recognised Chinese proficiency curriculums such as YCT, HSK, HSKK series as below:

a) Ages 6- 9 (Young Learners Mandarin): YCT (Youth Chinese Test) – The international standardised test that assessed young students’ ability to use Chinese in their daily life and in academia.

YCT 1:  The YCT (Level I) assesses test takers’ ability in daily use of Chinese. Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level I) can understand and use some of the most common Chinese phrases and sentences and possess the ability to further their Chinese language studies.

YCT 2:  The YCT (Level II) tests test takers’ ability in daily use of Chinese. Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level II) can understand and use some simple Chinese phrases and sentences and cope with basic level communications.

YCT 3: The YCT (Level III) assesses test takers’ ability in daily use of Chinese. Test takers who are able to pass the YCT (Level III) can produce simple and direct communication of their familiar day to day topics, reach the primary merit level of Chinese.

b) 9 and above (Preteen Mandarin and Teenagers Mandarin): HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) – The standardised test of Chinese language proficiency in China for non-native speakers that assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. There are six levels of writing tests in  HSK:

HSK 1 & 2 – Beginner – Students who complete this level can  have an excellent grasp of basic Chinese and can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.

HSK 3 & 4 – Intermediate – Students who complete this level can converse in Chinese on a wide range of topics and are able to communicate fluently with native Chinese speakers.

HSK 5 & 6 – Advanced – Students who complete this level can easily comprehend written and spoken information in Chinese and can effectively express themselves in Chinese, both orally and on paper.

c) Adults 18 years and above: Colloquial Chinese – An exclusive and carefully developed program for adult students that combines a clear, practical and accessible style with a methodical and thorough methodology that equips learners to communicate confidently and effectively in Chinese without any prior knowledge of the language.
